The next stop on our journey of documenting the Arab-American experience took us to Washington D.C.  We found ourselves on Capitol Hill in the middle of an Occupy protest. After speaking to some protesters and gathering shots around the Capitol, we were kindly asked to be on our way by a Capitol Hill police officer since we did not have a permit.

We then hopped in a taxi to Busboys & Poets (5th & K st) where we interviewed restaurant owner and social entrepreneur, Annas “Andy” Shallal.  Mr. Shallal immigrated to America at the age of 11 from Iraq.  We are so excited and thankful that he agreed to share his story with us, and we can’t wait to show it to all of you!

Special thanks to Dan Bitcon of Bitcon Productions for working with us on the shoot and directing photography.

What’s next? Want to do a shoot in Toledo, Ohio, working on the script. Requests for interviews are in for CNN Anchor Hala Gorani & Public Radio’s Diane Rehm.
